Where is Hamilton Airport, and who flies from it?
John C. Munro Hamilton International Airport (YHM) is on Hamilton Mountain in Mount Hope, off Highway 6, about 68 km from Toronto Pearson and 15 minutes from downtown Hamilton. It is the base for Flair Airlines' Ontario schedule, the seasonal sun carriers to Florida, Mexico and the Caribbean, and one of Canada's largest overnight cargo operations. There is no rail link and a thin late-night taxi rank — a pre-arranged chauffeur removes the trade-off that comes with the cheap fare.
Hamilton's airport is where a great many Ontario families found their March-break flight for a fraction of the Pearson fare, and where a lot of them then discovered that the terminal is on a hill off a two-lane highway at 1 am with no train, an intermittent bus and a taxi rank that has gone home. The airport is a good one — small, fast, easy to clear — and the ground transport is the part a chauffeur fixes.

Getting to and from YHM: the options
| Option | Cost, one-way | Time to downtown Hamilton | To Toronto downtown | The catch |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Pre-booked chauffeur (this service) | Fixed fare by address, quoted before you book | 15 min | ~60 min | None — met at the terminal, timed to the flight |
| Taxi from the rank | Metered | 15 min | ~60 min | Thin at night; long trips negotiated |
| Rideshare | Dynamic | 15 min | ~60 min | Availability on the Mountain after midnight |
| HSR bus route 20 A-Line | City fare | 30–40 min to downtown | + GO to Toronto | Limited hours; luggage |
| Drive and park | Fuel + airport parking | 15 min | ~60 min | The 403 and QEW at 1 am after a sun flight |
The Hamilton Street Railway runs a bus to the airport during the day, and GO Transit connects Hamilton to Toronto and to Pearson via Square One — but neither is running when the 12:40 am Sunwing arrival from Punta Cana clears customs. That flight is the reason most people book us at YHM.
Where the chauffeur meets you
Hamilton's terminal is a single building with arrivals on the ground floor. The chauffeur waits inside the arrivals area at the exit from customs with a name board, takes the luggage and walks you to the vehicle at the short-term parking a minute away. Sixty minutes of waiting are included from touchdown on international arrivals, thirty on domestic, which covers customs at Hamilton comfortably — it is one of the fastest clearances in Ontario. For departures, the chauffeur drops you at the terminal door; the airlines ask for two hours before a domestic flight and three before an international one, and the sun carriers' early-morning departures mean pickups across the region between 3 and 5 am.
Drive times from YHM
- Downtown Hamilton, Ancaster, Stoney Creek: 15–20 minutes down the Mountain via the Lincoln Alexander Parkway or Upper James.
- Burlington and Oakville: 30–40 minutes via the 403 and the QEW.
- Brantford, Cambridge: 35–45 minutes via Highway 6 and the 403 or 401.
- Toronto downtown: about 60 minutes off-peak via the 403, the QEW and the Gardiner; 80–90 in the commute.
- Pearson: 50 minutes off-peak via the 403, the QEW and the 427 — the airport-to-airport transfer below.
- Niagara Falls: 60 minutes via the QEW.
- Kitchener-Waterloo, Guelph: 45–60 minutes via Highway 6 and the 401.
Our chauffeurs watch the Ontario 511 boards on the live traffic page; the 403 through Hamilton and the QEW over the Skyway are the variables. Winter tyres are standard from November, and Highway 6 up the Mountain is the one stretch that snow slows.

Hamilton to Pearson: the airport-to-airport transfer
A Flair arrival from Vancouver connecting to an Air Canada long-haul from Terminal 1, or a Pearson international arrival connecting to a Hamilton sun flight — the two airports are 68 km apart and no airline connects them. We run the transfer with both flight numbers: the chauffeur tracks the inbound aircraft, meets you inside the arrivals area, and delivers you to the departures door of the right terminal at the other end, with the check-in cut-off and the drive time for the hour built into the pickup. The Pearson complete guide explains the terminals; the terminal finder tells you which one.
The sun-flight season
From December to April Hamilton's terminal is busiest between 4 and 7 am, when Sunwing, Swoop's successors and the charter carriers leave for the south, and between 11 pm and 2 am when they return. That is when the ground-transport gap is widest, and when a family with four suitcases, a stroller and a sunburn most wants a chauffeur inside the hall. The Luxury SUV with a child seat fitted at booking is the vehicle for it, and the fixed fare is the same at 1 am as at noon.
Flair, the low-cost model and the 3 am pickup
Flair's Ontario network from Hamilton — Vancouver, Calgary, Edmonton, Halifax and seasonal routes — flies at hours the airline can get the aircraft, which means departures at 6 am and arrivals at midnight are normal. A pre-booked chauffeur is assigned the evening before, has the flight number, and is at the door in Burlington or Ancaster at 3:45 am for a 6 am departure. If the flight changes — and low-cost schedules do — one message moves the pickup.
Cargo, crews and the airport's other business
Hamilton is one of Canada's busiest cargo airports, with overnight operations for the courier integrators and freight carriers, and the crews and engineers who run them rotate through the terminal at hours no bus serves. We run standing crew transfers for aviation operators on a corporate account: the same vehicle, the same pickup point, invoiced monthly.

Get a fixed fare from Hamilton Airport
Hamilton beyond the airport
The city's own Pearson traffic — McMaster, the hospitals, the steel and logistics companies — is covered on the Pearson-to-Hamilton route page, and Burlington, Ancaster, Dundas and Stoney Creek are all quoted as their own addresses. Niagara and the wineries are an hour east; the Niagara route page describes them.
What the confirmation contains
Every booking returns an email with the flight number we are tracking, the meeting point, the destination, the vehicle class and the fare; on the day it is followed by the chauffeur's name, mobile number and the vehicle plate. Changes are a reply or a call at any hour; a delayed flight changes nothing.
Hamilton's terminal, in detail
The terminal is a single low building on Airport Road off Highway 6, with check-in, security and the gates on one level and the arrivals area at the east end. Customs for the sun flights is quick because the building was sized for them; the carousels are steps from the exit; the short-term parking is across a single roadway. There is no queue for anything except, on a February Sunday at 1 am, the taxi rank — and that is the queue the chauffeur inside the hall replaces. The airport's own site has the parking rates and the live flight board.
Departure timing from the region
For a 6 am Sunwing departure the airline's three-hour international advice puts you at the terminal at 3 am. From downtown Hamilton that is a 2:40 am pickup; from Burlington 2:25; from Brantford 2:20; from Toronto downtown 1:55; from Kitchener 2:05. Those are the times the chauffeur proposes, confirmed in writing, and the chauffeur is early. For Flair's domestic flights the two-hour advice moves everything an hour later. The departures page explains the arithmetic.
Around the airport: Mount Hope, Binbrook, Caledonia
The airport's immediate neighbourhood is rural — Mount Hope village, Binbrook, Caledonia and the farms of Glanbrook — and its addresses are quoted by the engine at short distances; the Canadian Warplane Heritage Museum beside the airport is a frequent drop for visitors. Hamilton Mountain's suburbs are ten minutes; the lower city fifteen.
Hamilton by the calendar
December to April is the sun-flight season, with the terminal busiest before dawn and after midnight. May to October brings the airshow at the Warplane Heritage Museum, the summer charter programme and Flair's peak domestic schedule. Cargo runs all year, every night. For a chauffeur the calendar decides the pickup margin more than the clock: a February Sunday at 1 am with three sun flights down and a squall on Highway 6 is planned differently from a June Tuesday at noon, and the fixed fare is the same for both.
Pearson or Hamilton, for a Hamilton resident
Fly from YHM when the route is one it serves — Flair's domestic network, a sun charter — and the fare beats Pearson by enough to matter. Fly from Pearson for everything else, and use the Pearson-to-Hamilton route, where the chauffeur meets you inside Terminal 1 or 3 and drives the QEW home. For a family flying south, the arithmetic often favours Hamilton on the fare and the chauffeur on the 1 am return, which is why we run both.
What the confirmation contains, in short
The flight number, the meeting point at the customs exit, the destination, the class, the fare; the chauffeur's name, mobile and plate on the day; changes by reply or call at any hour.
Hamilton to Buffalo and the border
Hamilton is an hour from the Peace Bridge, and a Hamilton resident weighing a Flair flight from YHM against a Southwest fare from Buffalo has both on one engine: the Buffalo airport page covers the crossing, the documents and the fixed fare with the bridge toll inside it. The chauffeur decides between the Peace Bridge and Lewiston-Queenston on the live border board at pickup.
Hamilton (YHM): questions answered
Do you serve the Canadian Warplane Heritage Museum and Mount Hope?
Yes — the museum beside the airport, Mount Hope, Binbrook and Caledonia are quoted by the engine at short distances from the terminal.
Is Hamilton Airport open 24 hours?
The airport operates around the clock, with the passenger terminal open for its scheduled flights including the pre-dawn sun departures and the post-midnight returns; cargo operations run all night. Check the airport's site for the day's schedule.
How far is Hamilton Airport from Burlington and Oakville?
Burlington is about 30 minutes and Oakville about 40 via the 403 and the QEW; both are quoted by the engine as their own addresses.
How much is a limo from Hamilton Airport to Toronto?
The reservation engine quotes a fixed fare for your exact Toronto address and vehicle class before you book, including tolls, taxes, curbside pickup at the arrivals level and sixty minutes of waiting from touchdown on international arrivals (thirty on domestic).
How far is Hamilton Airport from Toronto?
About 75 km from downtown Toronto — roughly 60 minutes off-peak via the 403, the QEW and the Gardiner — and 68 km from Pearson, about 50 minutes.
Is there a bus or train from Hamilton Airport?
The HSR bus serves the airport during the day and GO Transit connects Hamilton to Toronto and Pearson, but neither runs for the late-night sun-flight arrivals or the early-morning Flair departures.
Where does the chauffeur meet me at YHM?
Inside the arrivals area at the customs exit, with a name board. The vehicle is at the short-term parking a minute away.
Can you connect a Hamilton flight with a Pearson flight?
Yes. We run the 68 km airport-to-airport transfer with both flight numbers, timed to the inbound arrival and the outbound check-in cut-off.
Do you pick up at 3 am for Flair and Sunwing departures?
Yes. The service runs 24 hours and the early sun-flight bank is our busiest time at Hamilton. The chauffeur is assigned the evening before.
Which airlines fly from Hamilton?
Flair Airlines' domestic network, seasonal sun carriers including Sunwing and charter operators, and a large overnight cargo operation. Check the airport's site for the current schedule.
