Region of Waterloo International Airport (YKF)
Breslau's regional airport serves the whole tech corridor — Flair's domestic flights, charters, corporate aircraft — and sends most of its international passengers up the 401 to Pearson anyway. How both trips work.

Where is Waterloo Airport, and what flies from it?
The Region of Waterloo International Airport (YKF) is in Breslau, between Kitchener and Guelph, about 15 minutes from uptown Waterloo and 88 km from Toronto Pearson. It handles Flair Airlines' domestic schedule, charter and seasonal flights, and a large corporate and general-aviation operation with its own FBO. Most of the region's international travellers still fly through Pearson, so the YKF-to-Pearson transfer is one of the routes we run most.
Waterloo Region — Kitchener, Waterloo, Cambridge and the townships — is the largest population centre in Ontario without a major international airport, and YKF is its answer to that: a well-run regional field with a terminal that clears in minutes, a runway long enough for narrow-body jets, and a location on the 401-to-Highway-7 corridor that puts the universities and the technology campuses fifteen minutes away. What it cannot do is fly you to London or Frankfurt, which is why this page is about two journeys — to and from YKF itself, and between YKF and Pearson.

To and from YKF: the options
| Option | Cost, one-way | Time to uptown Waterloo | To downtown Kitchener | The catch |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Pre-booked chauffeur (this service) | Fixed fare by address, quoted before you book | 15–20 min | 15 min | None — met at the terminal, timed to the flight |
| Taxi from the rank | Metered | 15–20 min | 15 min | Thin at Flair's late arrivals |
| Rideshare | Dynamic | 15–20 min | 15 min | Breslau is at the edge of the coverage area |
| GRT bus (limited) | City fare | 45+ min with a transfer | 40+ min | Not timed to flights; luggage |
| Drive and park | Fuel + airport parking | 15–20 min | 15 min | Reasonable for a short trip; the airport's parking is close and inexpensive |
Honest note: for a Waterloo resident on a three-day trip, driving to YKF and parking is a sensible option in a way it is not at Pearson — the lot is beside the terminal and the drive is short. The chauffeur earns its place for the late Flair arrivals, for visitors without a car, for groups and for the corporate traveller whose company would rather pay a fixed fare than a parking receipt.
Where the chauffeur meets you
YKF's terminal is a single building. The chauffeur waits inside the arrivals area at the baggage carousel with a name board, takes the luggage and walks you to the vehicle in the adjacent parking. Sixty minutes of waiting are included from touchdown on international arrivals, thirty on domestic. For departures the chauffeur drops you at the terminal door; Flair asks for two hours before domestic flights, and the terminal's security is quick.
Drive times from YKF
- Uptown Waterloo, University of Waterloo, Laurier: 15–20 minutes via Highway 7 and the Conestoga Parkway.
- Downtown Kitchener: 15 minutes.
- Cambridge: 20–25 minutes via Highway 8 or the 401.
- Guelph: 20 minutes east on Highway 7.
- Stratford: 45 minutes west.
- Toronto Pearson: 65 minutes off-peak via the 401 and the 427; 85–100 in the weekday morning commute.
- Downtown Toronto: 90 minutes off-peak.
The chauffeur watches the Ontario 511 boards on the live traffic page and uses the 407 ETR from Milton to the 427 when the 401 backs up through Mississauga, with the toll inside the fare.

YKF to Pearson: the connection
A Flair arrival at YKF from Calgary connecting to an Air Canada flight to London from Terminal 1 has no airline link between the two airports — the 88 km transfer is the connection. We run it with both flight numbers: the chauffeur tracks the inbound aircraft, meets you at the YKF carousel, and delivers you to the departures door of the right Pearson terminal with the three-hour international cut-off and the drive time for the hour built into the plan. The reverse — a Pearson long-haul arrival connecting to a Flair departure from YKF — works the same way, with sixty minutes of waiting included from the Pearson touchdown on an international arrival (thirty on domestic) and the pickup inside the Pearson hall. The Kitchener-Waterloo route page gives the 401 timing by hour.
Corporate aviation and the FBO
YKF has an active corporate and general-aviation side — charter operators, corporate flight departments and the FBO that fuels and handles them — serving the technology companies, the insurers and the manufacturers of the region. A pre-arranged chauffeur meets a corporate aircraft at the FBO rather than the terminal: give us the tail number or the operator and the ETA, and the chauffeur is on the ramp side of the FBO when the aircraft parks. The private aviation service is on the transportation page; corporate flight departments run it on a corporate account.
Universities, delegations and the region's visitors
The University of Waterloo, Wilfrid Laurier and Conestoga College bring visiting academics and delegations through both YKF and Pearson; the Perimeter Institute and the Communitech companies bring investors, recruits and customers. A visiting speaker met by name at the YKF carousel and delivered to the campus building is the same booking as the Pearson pickup — one contact, one fixed fare, one invoice line on the department's account.
Vehicles at YKF
The Executive Sedan for one or two travellers; the Luxury SUV for a family off a Flair flight from the coast with luggage and a child seat fitted at booking; the Executive Sprinter for a delegation or a team; the Premium Sedan for the corporate-aircraft passenger. The fleet page has capacities for each class.
Get a fixed fare from Waterloo Airport
The fixed fare
The reservation engine quotes a fixed fare for the pickup at YKF and your exact destination and vehicle class: the chauffeur, the vehicle, tolls, taxes, curbside pickup at the terminal and sixty minutes of waiting from touchdown on international arrivals (thirty on domestic). It does not change with the 401 or the hour. Gratuity is at your discretion; the flat-rate page explains the whole fare.
What the confirmation contains
Every booking returns an email with the flight number or tail number we are tracking, the meeting point, the destination, the vehicle class and the fare; on the day it is followed by the chauffeur's name, mobile number and the vehicle plate. Changes are a reply or a call at any hour.
The airport's growth, and what it means for pickups
YKF has grown quickly since Flair based aircraft there, and the terminal was expanded to match; the airport's own site publishes the current schedule, the parking rates and the live flight board. For a chauffeur the practical change is volume on the Flair arrival banks — a full narrow-body landing at 11 pm means the carousel and the parking are busy for twenty minutes, and the name board inside the hall is what keeps a group together.
Departure timing from the region
For a 6 am Flair departure the two-hour domestic advice puts you at the terminal at 4 am — a 3:40 am pickup in uptown Waterloo, 3:35 in Cambridge, 3:35 in Guelph, 2:50 in Stratford. Confirmed in writing; the chauffeur early. The departures page explains the arithmetic.
Breslau, Elmira, St Jacobs and the townships
The airport sits in Woolwich Township, and its nearest addresses — Breslau itself, Elmira, St Jacobs and the farm country of the Mennonite townships — are five to twenty minutes away and quoted by the engine as their own. Visitors to the St Jacobs market and the Elmira maple-syrup festival arrive at YKF and are at the destination in fifteen minutes.
Waterloo by the calendar
Flair's schedule runs year-round with a summer peak; the university calendar adds its own — convocations in June and October, move-in in early September, and the conference season through the year — and the corporate side runs on business days. For a chauffeur the busy hours are Flair's late-evening arrivals and the early-morning departures, and the calendar decides whether a Sunday-evening pickup from a Flair flight meets the region's own commuter traffic on the Conestoga Parkway.
YKF, Pearson or Hamilton, for a Waterloo resident
Fly from YKF when it serves the route; from Pearson for the rest of the world; from Hamilton when a sun charter there beats both on fare. All three are on one booking engine, and the Kitchener-Waterloo route page covers the Pearson run in detail. For a family, the arithmetic usually favours YKF on the drive and Pearson on the schedule — and the chauffeur removes the drive from the comparison.
The fixed fare, in short
The engine quotes the pickup at YKF and your exact destination and class: chauffeur, vehicle, tolls, taxes, curbside pickup at the terminal and sixty minutes of waiting on international arrivals (thirty on domestic). It does not change with the 401 or the hour.
Timing worked through
A Flair flight from Vancouver lands at YKF at 11:20 pm. The chauffeur, tracking it, is at the carousel with a board when the bags arrive at 11:45; the vehicle is in the adjacent lot; uptown Waterloo is reached at 12:05 am. Compare the taxi rank at that hour, or the rideshare app deciding whether Breslau is worth the drive. For the reverse — a 6 am Flair departure — the two-hour advice puts the passenger at the terminal at 4 am, a 3:40 am pickup in Waterloo, and the chauffeur, assigned the evening before, is at the door at 3:35.
Groups from the region
A Laurier varsity team, a Communitech delegation to a conference, a wedding party from Elmira: the Executive Sprinter meets the flight at YKF or delivers the group to it, fourteen with luggage on one reservation, and the coach handles thirty-two. The private shuttle page covers the group format, and corporate accounts put recurring group travel on one invoice.
What the confirmation contains, in short
The flight or tail number, the meeting point, the destination, the class, the fare; the chauffeur's name, mobile and plate on the day; changes by reply or call at any hour.
